Our story

At 24, I traveled to Africa (Ghana) for the first time, and it was love at first sight.

Back in the Netherlands, I pursued a career in IT but spent my free time volunteering on nature conservation projects. I also visited Africa as often as possible. While I enjoyed my job, I couldn’t shake the thought of what life might be like if I worked in conservation full-time.

After nearly 20 years in commercial IT, I finally took the leap and left my job to join Sensing Clues, a Dutch NGO that develops data collection and analysis tools for conservation organizations.

Three years ago, I decided to embrace a digital nomad lifestyle. I traveled across East and Southern Africa, meeting with potential and existing Sensing Clues customers. During that time, I fell in love with Tanzania. The country’s unparalleled beauty and the warmth and optimism of its people made it clear to me that I wanted to stay.

In 2024, I met Enock Chengullah and we started Kumbe Biodiversity Limited. Together, and with the support of a remarkable network of friends and colleagues with over a century of combined experience in biodiversity monitoring, we’re committed to making Kumbe a success!
